Our main objective is to sponsor 2 refugee families to rebuild their lives in Bude under the Government’s Community Sponsorship Programme.
(Community Sponsorship is a way to welcome and resettle refugees within a community, with community members taking responsibility for all aspects of the refugees’ resettlement from arrival in the UK through to settled independence)
BRSG was approved by the Home office as a Community Sponsorship group in early 2017, thanks to the hard work, dedication and fund-raising efforts of all our members, and the generous support of communities in and around Bude. In June 2017 the first refugee family arrived in Bude; the second family arrived in March 2018.
BRSG members are now fully involved in supporting the families to rebuild their lives. There is a key team of volunteers who help with all aspects of the families’ resettlement; they are befrienders, drivers and childminders, they help find training and employment opportunities, teach English, organise school places for the children, teach driving theory lessons, and much more.
